Join me this summer season for some playful Standup Paddle Board Yoga and Functional Balance on Lake Elmore!

Take your balance to the next level, whatever your level is! Come challenge your core and challenge your balance all while enjoying the peaceful beauty of life on the water!

The first of 2 Weekend Workshops at Green Mountain Crossfit in Morrisville, VT 

Handstands and Hanging Shrugs: Yoga and Functional Movement for the Shoulders and Wrists

The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, and also one of the most commonly injured. Overhead positions of the arm, such as those needed for performing handstands, pull ups, or weightlifting above the shoulders require tremendous strength not only in the large muscles of the shoulder and upper back, but also in the small but indispensable muscles of the rotator cuff. Come explore ways to improve shoulder movement, reduce shoulder pain, and prevent injury in all kinds of overhead arm movements through improved rotator cuff strength and shoulder flexibility. Shoulder injury? Come on down! Happy shoulders? Keep them that way! 

In each of the 2 workshops in this series we will explore anatomy, address existing and potential injuries, build strength in vulnerable areas, and enhance flexibility for ease of movement and improved mechanics. Expect stretching, strengthening, movement education, and some self massage with balls or rollers in each class.

In my experience the paddleboard is the perfect place to take balance and core exercises (and yoga poses, of course) to the next level, whatever your level is!  If you have never tried SUP before, or if you have done it but have never done a class on one, this is a great opportunity to challenge your brain and strengthen your core while having fun out on the water!

If you ask me, the point of yoga is not how far you can wrap your legs around the back of your head or how well you can stand on your hands or how you look in your yoga pants. Yoga is about real people, with aches and pains and strengths and weaknesses, exploring a diverse array of movements within a safe range and hopefully feeling better in the process. In this regard Chair Yoga is the ultimate form of yoga. It is the prefect way to explore new types of movement even if you can not bear weight on your hands and knees, and/or can not get up and down off of the floor. Want to learn how to do yoga at the airport or sitting in your office chair? Do you have arthritis or other conditions that make regular yoga practice with all of its ups and downs difficult or impossible? Respecting your body as it is is a vital part of any yoga practice, come try chair yoga! (beginners and all ages welcome!)

We breath in and out approximately 20,000 times every day. Our breath, the process of inspiring air into and expiring air out of our lungs, is a vital component of our life, our health, and our experience as humans. Breath creates the ability to smell, to taste, and to speak. Laughter follows a specific breathing pattern, as does crying, we breath faster when we are angry, anxious, or aroused and slower when we are relaxed and comfortable. In this 2 hour class we will explore the anatomy of the breath through pranayama (specific breathing practices), asana (yoga postures), and meditation.
